January 2012 Newsleter
“The basis for true change is freedom from negativity.
And that's what acceptance implies:
no negativity about what is.
And then you see what this moment requires:
what is it that is required now
so that life can express itself more fully?"

What's New
Welcome to 2012! It's finally here. It's finally time. Does anybody hear the Jaws movie theme music in their heads? lol! Okay, seriously, 2012 is not doom and gloom unless you believe it is so. If you believe that then you will miss out on creating whole lot of good things for yourself that sets you up for years to come! That's right I don't feel we are all to perish on December 21, 2012! I believe we are evolving in a major, awesome and magical way this year!
I have so many goals for this year! I've already met a few by the end of last year by publishing my first book, How I Found My True Inner Peace, and updating my website design, both of which were tremendous undertakings! Not to mention finally finding a great place to offer my two recorded Meditations (one of which a companion CD for the second book which is soon-to-be-published). So this year my goal is to finalize and publish my second book, Divine Embrace! :) It's so close. I've decided to have my official e-mail book launch for Divine Embrace on Leap Year this year, February 29th! Since Leap years are rare gems, I thought this was a fantastic day to share my unique book offering as well. Stay tuned! Other goals are to finish my Core Strength Vinyasa Flow Teacher Training with Sadie Nardini and my main goal, aside from these major ones, is to decide and get clarity on if I desire pursuing becoming a Personal Trainer. We shall see what inspired intuition and action comes! :)
Are you ready to step into your full potential? Since 2012 is the year that really packs a punch on us creating our desires, I've just released another beautiful meditation CD to assist you in doing just that! Click here to learn more about purchasing the Create The Life You Desire Meditation. This year is all about action and stepping into your very own, finally! Much has occurred in 2011 to shake the snowglobe (so to speak). So now we must release once and for all what needs to be released and begin to create the new desires that we are now finally ready to create. We're done talking about it, blockages have been released and now we must step out there. Take a chance and see what sticks. We will still have challenges but now it's all about what we create. So do the work and process what needs processing while you finally enjoy the fruits of your hard work. :) Light a candle! I know that the beginning of this year was a bit tumultuous to start for a lot of folks with some new/old challenges coming up. It seems like a spillover of 2011. Just a little bit of finishing up what was created from last years energies. As you begin to truly focus on yourself, your power, your destiny of services and living in the present moment things will balance out. This year it's totally up to you to create your best life yet; the best version of yourself! Speaking of creating, we have a new moon this month on January 23rd. This is one of the best times to make your wishes. So on January 23rd make your list of wishes/intentions for this year or even just this week. Write them down. Place them under a tea light candle. Then light it and watch your wishes magical come into your life. :) Check out the below video! Everything that I want to say and share with you is encompassed in this beautiful video all about 2012! :)
2012: A Year of Power
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJJ_AM5C4ns
"2012 is going to be an amazing year. There will be very intense Solar Flares and explosions of Light from the Sun that will enhance Earth’s transformation into a New Solar Reality. As long as we stay focused on the Light and the miracles that are taking place daily and hourly, instead of the negativity that is surfacing to be cleansed and healed, we are going to experience the long-expected and Light-filled year of 2012 with wonder and awe." ~ Patricia Cota-Robles
WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY
"I thank you for what you wrote, It's been an amazing journey so far. I found comfort in reading them almost 7 months after my awakening. It's been a road alright. I am ever so greatful for finding your words of caution & comfort."
~ Contessa

Yoga Pose of the Month
Cow Face Twist
Sanskrit: Gomukhasana
First photo of Maggie Anderson taken by Connor O'Hara
Second photo courtesy of yogajournal.com
Cowface with a Twist is one of my favorite seated poses! This pose is great for circulation in the legs and giving them a great stretch. And adding in the twist variation is perfect for getting nice and deep into the spine (as all twists are great for), as well as cleansing more of the internal organs and releasing more toxins from the body. And it just feels oh so good!!!
Cowface even without the twist stretches the ankles, hips and thighs. The other common variation in Cowface is to also stretch the arms behind you by clasping your fingers together or with a strap (as shown in the second illustration below). If you choose this variation you are giving your shoulders, arms, triceps and chest a superb stretch as well! I love both of these variations as once you are situated enjoying the pose, you can then breathe deeply and go inward.
Directions on how to come into the pose:
From a seated position, take your right knee to the center line of your mat being. Then take your left bent knee and stack it over the right knee. Be mindful to keep feet on either side of your hips. A great way to get those knees to stack over each other is to push into them with your hands, taking one hand to one knee and another to other knee and pressing them inward so that they stack better. This may also help you in being sure your sits bones are on the mat. If getting your sits bones on to stay on the mat is challenging you can take a folded blanket under your sits bones so that you can get them pressing down equally. From here inhale and elongate the spine, good posture. Place arms at your sides and begin to hinge forward at the hips while maintaining a straight back. Give yourself an extra stretch here. Elongate the back of the neck, in alignment with the spine.
First Variation, the Twist: When you are ready, come back straight up and begin to twist. Take your left hand behind you and your right hand/arm over the left leg either resting the fingertips on the mat or slightly lifted from ground. Push into your left ever so slightly to assist in the twist of the spine. Gaze out to the left or over your shoulder behind you, if that feels good on the neck. After five deep breaths or holding for 30 seconds slowly, come back to center. Align the spine once again. Take a deep breath and on your exhale release the legs out and switch sides.
Second Variation, Arm stretch: (This is commonly started with a strap till you get used to the stretch behind the back. So either take a strap and follow instructions while holding the strap with top arm or do this without the strap.) Inhale and stretch your right arm straight out shoulder height palm facing up towards the ceiling. Bend the elbow and place the palm of the hand on your upper back. You can take your left hand on your right elbow for a moment to get the palm just right on your upper back. Then take your left hand out to the left and palm is facing behind you but shoulder is still in that nice center point, not falling foward or too far back. This movement may roll your left shoulder slightly up and forward, and round your upper back. Sweep the arm behind your torso and tuck the forearm in the hollow of your lower back, parallel to your waist, with the left elbow against the left side of your torso. Roll the shoulder back and down, then work the forearm up your back until it is parallel to your spine. The back of your hand will be between your shoulder blades. Be mindful that your right elbow doesn't slip away from the right side of your torso. Keep it in.
Now hands are reaching towards each other. If possible, hook the right and left fingers. Lift the right elbow toward the ceiling and, from the back armpit, descend the left elbow toward the floor. Firm your shoulder blades against your back ribs and lift your chest. Try to keep the right arm right beside the right side of your head. Stay in this pose about 1 minute. Release the arms, uncross the legs, and repeat with the arms and legs reversed for the same length of time. Commonly, whichever leg is on top, the same-side arm is lower. When not to do this pose or to modify / Contraindications:
Knee issues will make this pose more challenging, so if you are feeling tight or any pain in the knee, take the modification to stretch out the bottom leg nice and long, flex that foot. For the arm variation on Cowface it's best not to practice or to be seriously mindful if you have serious neck or shoulder problems.

Walk Softly, Carry a Big Stick
How can we get better centered to handle the challenges that life throws our way? Being centered is
especially powerful this year of 2012 to give us a jump start to magical experiences. As we center
ourselves and find that balance or neutral state we can better face life’s challenges and handle them
with more ease. We are in the flow of life rather than pushing too hard or not hard enough. We simply
flow allowing life to flow in and out. The ebbs and flows of life are natural and we can better naturally
accept them and work with them to truly enjoy life! Find your balance, come back to center. Where in life are
you off-centered or not focused properly? Ask yourself (and truly listen to the answer), "What can I
do to correct the imbalance? What can I do to come back to my center or rather a neutral witness state
of mind?"
In yoga, there is a main pose that is the template for all other poses, called Mountain Pose.
As we find proper alignment in this pose, we want to take this same alignment throughout all other
yoga poses. We want to see how we can go inward as well as how we express outward. But we want
to find balance between the two. Not too inward and not to outward. In this pose, stand tall with good
posture, tucking the pelvis in. Find the neutral space for your shoulders. Not too hunched over or too
open that we dump weight in the lower back arching too much. But find the centered or neutral place for
your shoulders. As we do this we tuck the pelvis, lift up from the pelvic floor, pull the navel in towards
the spine and expand upward. Strong legs, feet walking distance apart. Feel the neutral but strong
sense in this active yet still pose. There is a polarity here as in all poses that we can find a balanced
center in. As in this pose, we must find that in our life situations.
I love the Zen saying (my sister just reminded me of), “Walk Softly, Carry a Big Stick”. It’s the balance
in life. Don’t be too weak with your essence, but don’t be too overbearing in strength either. Don’t allow
others to walk all over you, but be mindful you are not walking all over others. Find the balance in your
stance of this situation and reflect. Go inward on what this means to you right now. Where are we
pushing too hard and where can we push a little more, a little stronger?
As a parent, you may notice those moments when disciplining is perfectly aligned; where you are able
to speak softly or in such a balanced tone, but exude such a presence of strong powerful authority that
you are taken seriously by the child. We don't need to yell or get off our center. We are able to
remain calm but strong and centered with our disciplinary action. It's those moments when we truly
find a neutral spiritual way of being. We can discipline out of love, set ours boundaries and lovingly, but
sternly, discipline when necessary for our child's growth. We do it out of love and positive results
ensue.
Another personal example is regarding a legal agreement. It is agreed that since I have full custody of
our son I am to receive child support from my ex-husband every week. However, it has been a struggle
to keep receiving that consistently. It's been a pattern of my ex-husband to be out of work over the
Winter season. In years past he blamed getting laid off. Then he blamed his chosen job field in
construction and not having much work over the cold season. His next excuse was that there just weren't
enough jobs out there. Then he found a job and got screwed over by his boss so he quit (this one
happening a few times). On and on the excuses ensued.
Finally, it's no more excuses time. A good resolution to have this year. This year there's no more
excuses. And I find it quite coincidental that this is also the theme for this year's brand new season of The Biggest Loser. No excuses. There comes a time when you've heard it all and the pattern
is still continuing. If there is no change, you can either change your perspective in a situation or you
can change the situation. In this case, the perspective was sought but an actual physical action was to
be taken. I had to take back my power that was being taken from me. A part of me must have allowed it
and for far too long. So I had to put my foot down in an ever so graceful kind of way. Yes, we all go
through struggles and what needs to be understood is we are NOT THE VICTIM. We are the creator! So
we must take responsibility and move from the powerful neutral state of a centered being.
I had to admit to myself there was a part of me co-creating this crappy pattern, as well as see what I
could do about it. I've already done the "court" thing several times, more than I can remember. So I
thought the pattern was over but perhaps it was like the onion uncovering layer after layer each year so
more of this pattern is cleared out and my power is my power once again. When I tap into the zero
state of mind and really allowed what will be to be once in court, a Divine plan good for all worked out.
This time around, it is about reminding my ex-husband of my boundaries, not feeling guilty for anything he's not
forgiven yet and not being taken advantage of because I'm a "nice" person. Walking all over me is not
going to help me raise my son, nor is it healthy for my soul to allow this to continue. I communicated
this as gracefully as possible and amazingly most of the immediate child support was then caught up.
However, he has lapsed again since I wrote this so it is my choice to choose to let it go (perfectly divine
option in certain situations) or to stand strong with love and have the courts take their action on this
front. So it is my Divinely inspired action to allow the courts to take their action.
I am resolving to doing the work. If he's not doing his part, I must stand strong. I know that if it's not
paid, I cannot listen to more "excuses" anymore or wait too long to take action. So I am resolved to
going back to court, if necessary, to show that it's time to have a balanced relationship and this is his
responsibility. He can no longer take advantage of me and my energy.
We are all going through our challenges in life. There is not one person who can say they aren't facing
some sort of challenge. So we must all get along and work together as a unit. It's time for balance once
again. So I am trying to "walk softly while holding a big stick", graceful yet strong.
Where are you resisting and where are you allowing? Is there too much resistance or too much
allowing? Find the balance.
I wish you balance and a newfound presence filling your soul in this new year of 2012!
Blessings to you on your path,
~ Spiritual Cheerleader |

Dear Maggie
Click here to submit *your* question for the Dear Maggie Column
Dear Maggie,
My Mum passed away in December 30th 2008. I miss her so much. I feel that since she passed my life as descended into depression, poverty bad luck and I cant see me ever feeling positive. I don't know how too function properly without her. Please help.
Bless you,
Lorna
Dear Lorna,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Know that the pain truly does dull and heal over time. You will always have her with
you and this loss will always feel like a deep wound but you will heal. You grieve and you move on.
Know that there is always divine timing for everything, especially the day we are born and the day we
die. Death is not final. We do continue to live after our physical bodies die. A great quote by Abraham
(Abraham-Hicks.com) came in my inbox today: "Because we know that life is eternal, and we know
that there is no ending to that which you are about, if one of you is killed in an earthquake or crashes
your plane, or any number of other very creative ways you have found to make your exit into the
Non-Physical, because we know the whole picture, we grieve not a moment for any of you. But from
your more shortsighted point of view in physical, a lot of you grieve tremendously."
Always always always the message from our deceased loved ones is: They are okay and in a beautiful
loving place now, they love us deeply and they want us to be happy and thrive in our life here on Earth
until it is our time to cross over as well. Feel the blessing for the time you were able to spend with your
Mum before she crossed over.
Many times the death of someone close to us offers us a gateway to a new realm. A new way of being
and feeling the Divine. It is your choice to choose this gateway for yourself. Having someone close to
us go to Heaven causes us to question life and death more closely, to examine what truly IS Heaven
and God. What is OUR truth about these questions? It allows us the time (or sometimes even forces us
to take the time) to dive deeper into ourselves and find those truths inside ourselves. The answers are
there. They always have been and a death is a trigger to go deeper to find our true essence.
Our light shines and we can shine it more brightly when we feel the truth of the Divine. The light is in
each of us and as we get closer to that truth we can shine our light even bright for the world to see. It is
always your happiness that your Mum wants for you. She does not want you to continue to wallow in
despair. Each of us grieve differently and each of us grieve for different lengths of time. So honor that
grieving process and begin to move on.
Take it one day at a time; one step at a time. You have to learn to live again. Follow the synchronicities
that are being laid out for you, as I feel there are signs you must pay attention to now. Your Mum and
your Guides and Angels are sending you messages to pay attention to. When you are walking down
the street, notice with a new awareness what is happening around you. See common signs coming to
you. Things in threes or a constant flutter of a butterfly where you wouldn't expect it. Overhearing a
conversation that answers your prayers. Synchronicities are all around us. So as you notice them, you
will begin to be able to listen to them and your intuition to guide you on your path to a deeper meaning
for life.
There is life to be lived still. Try something new. Even if you are resistant. Get out of your comfort zone
to feel more alive. Have you ever tried yoga. Yoga postures offer amazing movement for the body that
has tremendous health benefits physically as well as mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Yoga is
perfect for those people suffering from depression or who are going through a period of loss. A great
yoga practice to try is one that includes supported backbends and inversions. These are great for
keeping sadness at bay and you are able to go more inward as you practice inversions (like Downdog,
Wide Seated or Standing Forward Bend, etc.). Finish up a yoga practice with Legs-Up-The-Wall pose. This is great for
reducing anxiety as well! If yoga doesn't resonate, perhaps Tai Chi, Qi Gong,
walking in nature or something else entirely that resonates for you! We are waking up our true essence
to feel the deeper truth of it all.
Find that deeper meaning in your life. We are all here for a reason. We have a purpose. Our main
purpose here is to remember who we truly are, to know we are the Divine experiencing itself. And
secondly, we are here to take inspired action for whatever it is we are meant to do as our Divine destiny
of service. What will make you feel fulfilled while you are here on Earth? What can you do right now that
will honor your Mum's presence in your life? Perhaps something you can do as a way of service or
give that your Mum would have wanted. Listen inside for what feels good, for as we learn to share
and give to others who are in need as much as us, we then begin to heal our wounds.
I wish you fulfillment, joy and a deeper awareness for life. :)
Blessings and happy seeking,
Maggie
