Children and Awareness

In being asked the question by quite a few people: “What do I do in order to help my child develop their spirituality and/or abilities?” I am thinking that really the only thing to “do” at this point in the child's development is to never discourage her/him. There is a balance in all things and you never want to rush the development of anyone, especially a child. However, you do not want to discourage natural growth either. Always encourage the abilities.

Although there are many out there who might fear spirituality of any sort and not like to hear something come out of a child's mouth they didn't expect, you must still be careful in how you caution your child against talking about such practices. Only so that the child continues to develop their gifts and not shun them away because someone ELSE is scared or says something that may trigger them to block her abilities or development. When a child talks of ghosts, show interest, but also act as if it's completely normal. Or for me I usually get excited with my son when he talks of them.

However, a note a caution. It would be nice for our children to have the spirituality that we either have now, or wanted to have at that young age. However, do know that we each have our own paths to lead. We each will grow the way we are meant to. If they start moving in a direction you didn't foresee (and it's not negative in any way) then let them explore. Don't interfere or guide them towards what you would prefer them to do. They have a path they will be drawn to. They should be exposed to many varieties of paths, and they will choose what is best for them.

I suggest creating a special journal of all the things your child says (when you have time). You can keep track of it, as well as even validate some things (if the child gets details) and most importantly to show it to the child as they get older. Some other things to help parents in keeping this “normal” routine for their child is to start meditations with them. Maybe at bedtime lead your child into a meditation (lights out if possible) by telling them a story. Maybe this story leads to a lovely waterfall or the ocean and has beautiful creatures; like fairies and angels. Kids love this anyway, and for the parent to have the child visualize this aids in their development. It's a nice visualization meditation technique for parents to use when they can. This will also assist the connection between the parent(s) and child(ren).

Always keep the creative channels open for your child (this usually happens anyway, but it's a reminder). Drawing or sculpting with clay or play dough, and building blocks are excellent avenues for children to keep their creative channels flowing. The creative side of the brain is also where our psychic abilities live, the more creative the stronger the connection to that psychic side of ourselves.

It helps children if the parent(s) talk about their own psychic experiences and spiritual development with the child(ren). In the “kid” speaking level of course. Just like parents tell their children that they pray and it becomes conditioned that praying is not only okay but helps, so too is talking about psychic experiences and spiritual development…

Also, it may feel right to have your child Reiki I attuned. This is something you must decide and weigh heavily. Follow your instincts—your intuition. Reiki is a soft, subtle energy that works progressively in a balanced way for the highest and best, good of all. Reiki I attunements consist of opening up the crown chakra slightly while clearing away some physical issues that may be going on. A child that is a baby being attuned will not have any physical issues to release, so it's a great time to start for some children. With Reiki I there are two attunements to be considered Reiki I attuned. I have only just now given my son (at 5-years of age) only one Reiki I attunement to see how he adjusts to this new level. Being five years old, there may be some minor clearing out issues. I will see how he adjusts for a few months before giving him the last Reiki I attunement for him to be considered Reiki I attuned. However, after this he will have to ask for any further attunements on his own. He will need to come to it of his own choice and free will. This first initial attunement should help clear and balance him and his energies in a subtle fashion.

Please remember to not put your wishes on your children. No matter how well intentioned and positive your hopes and wishes are for your child, do not force them to follow a path they do not desire themselves. They will reach their own levels in their own time. We are all different and go about it differently. Be open to any path, and of course inform them of all path options that are of positive, love, and light.

It is hard to watch someone go through something that you just know they don't need to go through if they only had the “answers” you have now. It's especially hard for a parent to watch a child go down these roads. But sometimes it is meant to be this way. We are meant to find our own path, even our children. As parents, we can inform them of what we see and feel is where they are going, but if they choose not to listen or at least be open to the possibilities, they may choose a harder route. And for them, that was meant to happen to force them to learn. It's hard to watch someone go through hard times, but sometimes it's enough that we passed on what we could, made them aware and we can only then hope they follow THEIR truest path. Their destiny will lead them the right way, even if it looks like it's more work than they needed. Sometimes some people need to have lower “lows” than we needed in order to “wake up” to their surroundings. We can only be there, hope they follow their truest path and hope they know they can always come to us.
